John is a highly-skilled senior financial executive with more than 25 years of experience in the healthcare industry. He has served as the Chief Financial Officer at multiple government, not-for-profit and investor-owned hospitals and large health systems.

Most recently, John served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Parkland Health and Hospital System, a county owned safety net system in Dallas with $1.6B in revenues, a flagship 862-bed acute care facility and Level I designated trauma center, 12 nursing homes, 12 outpatient treatment centers and an ambulatory surgery center. John is a results-driven financial leader with deep expertise in strategic financial management and reporting for multiple entities, and in all facets of financial reporting, including but not limited to: independent audits, revenue cycle, supply chain, information technology, health information management systems, compliance, ratings agency reviews, contract negotiations, project management, managed care, and acquisitions and development. At Parkland, John oversaw the opening of a $1.4B replacement facility.

Prior to his role at Parkland, John served for over 6 years as the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Carolinas HealthCare System in North Carolina, a not-for-profit healthcare system with over $700m in net revenues, 3 acute-care hospitals, 3 rehabilitation hospitals, 2 skills nursing facilities, 12 physician practices, 1 physician joint-venture, one ambulatory surgery center and one Freestanding Emergency Department. Under his direction, operating cash flow margin increased from 11.8% to 18.6% over 4 years, days cash on hand improved by 41.5% and days in AR decreased by 8.6%.

Previously John has also served for 4 years as the Chief Financial Officer of de novo Northwest Medical Center in Tuscon, where he oversaw the opening and staffing of all the finance-related areas of the hospital. Under his supervision, EBITDA margin improved by 1260 basis points in 2 years and a $20m expansion was built to accommodate growth in demand. Other prior roles include serving as the Chief Financial Officer of joint venture surgery centers in Arizona, as a Senior Financial Analyst at Triad Hospitals, at that time the country’s third largest for-profit hospital company, and as an Accounting Manager at HCA in Dallas.

John is a graduate of Baylor University with a Bachelor in Business Administration and is a Certified Public Account in the State of Texas. He is also a member of numerous professional associations including the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
